The original ad positions the product, not just as an effective lip balm, but also as a relaxing, luxurious experience.

The copy at the top of the ad, “Pamper your lips,” and the company tagline, “There’s no bliss like Blistex,” both establish the esteem-value of the product. This is meant to be a relaxing treatment of sorts, possibly even something more lavish. They further this idea with spa imagery. The model has a relaxed look on her face while seemingly awaiting a massage. The wooden slat flooring where the product and ingredients are displayed also bring to mind a spa. In this way, the message of the ad is that Blissful Butters lip balm is a way to treat oneself. It refreshes and rejuvenates a person, in the same way that a day at the spa would. It's also noteworthy that, though she is wearing makeup, her lips are not made to stand out. They are a natural shade, as if the only thing on them, and thus the source of their natural look, is the product.

What I wanted to address with my ad is the bland look of the original. While the colour scheme matches the packaging, it makes the overall picture lack colour. I also believe that too many text fonts are used on the top section of the ad, making it unappealing to the eye. Lastly the images on the bottom look as if they are floating above the picture. I put my ad in a lush, green jungle, as the model sips water from a mango leaf, with fruit growing in the background. The line "Find Your Bliss" implies a hidden paradise, waiting to be discovered. This is the experience of a spa, but she has gone out and found it for herself. The second line, "Refresh Your Lips," refers back to that rejuvenating quality, and the moisturizing property of the product.
